President of the Republic of Kazakhstan is Chief of State, top policymaker who determines the State’s internal and foreign policy basic trends and represents Kazakhstan both inside the country and in foreign affairs. ', 'President is a symbol and guarantor for nation and government unity, inviolability of Constitution, and the rights and liberties of man and citizen. President ensures the consistent operation of all government branches and their responsibility before nation. President is entitled the right to act on behalf of nation and state. President himself, his honor and dignity are inviolable. Infringement against President of the Republic’s honor and dignity shall be prosecuted under law. President is elected in accordance with Constitution by adult citizens of the Republic based on universal, equal and direct suffrage under voting by secret ballot for the period of seven years. A citizen born in the Republic of Kazakhstan no younger than forty, possessing good command of state language and having lived in Kazakhstan for no less than fifteen years shall be eligible for being elected as President. Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan On 1 December 1991, the first nationwide election of President of the Republic were held, resulting in N. Nazarbayev gaining 98,7 percent votes. On 29 April 1995, through nationwide referendum, N. Nazarbayev’s presidency was extended till 2000. On 10 January 1999, N. Nazarbayev was again elected President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, having gained 79,78 percent votes.
